Cry Foul (tie in to "Balls Out" storyline)

Yuki strolled confidently into the Lair Legion gym in sweats, gently drying her hair. She just returned from a shower in her quarters, during which she realized that she left the book she was reading last time she trained ManMan, figuring she's be back to finish reading it. But ManMan was gone now, so there was no sense leaving the book there.

She stopped in the doorway a moment, feeling a pang of sadness as she realized ManMan wouldn't be hers to abuse anymore in training. He had been ejected from the Lair Legion as a matter of political convenience, and she was still quite angry about it.

After a moment of pause she entered the gym and fetched her book. She noted Mr. Epitome working out on freeweights, each of which probably weighed as much as a LairJet. Hoping he didn't see her, she quickly headed back out, book in hand.

"What do you want?" Dominic asked in a strained voice as he lowered the weights back to the reinforced I-Beams on his custom made bench, and then sat up.

"I...uh...came to get my book." Yuki flashed him a quick, honest smile and tried to leave again. She changed her mind - something about the way he sighed and lay back down, bracing himself to lift the weights again, alone, seemed sad. "Look, Dominic...I thought I should ask you right out. Why do you like me to be afraid of you?"

Dominic looked at Yuki for a moment, but then took a deep breath and lifted. He was shocked when she grabbed the titanium reinforced weight bar with both hands and pushed down, adding enough resistance so Dominic had to put the weights back onto the I-Beams.

"I'm serious," she said. "I want to know if you're just playing games with me, trying to take advantage of the fact that I'm afraid you have it in for me."

"You take things too seriously," he said calmly. He lifted the weights again, and Yuki let go.

"What's the problem?" she asked, her irritation at having been brushed off edging her voice with sarcasm, "Unless a girl's been humbled and beaten down by your awesome power sufficiently you can't get it up?"

There was a loud crash as Epitome missed the I-Beams entirely and the weights and the bar rolled off of the bench and crashed to the floor noisily. He sat up just in time to get out of its way, and his eyes were pure firey anger.

"What?" he growled loudly. "Who told you? Damn it, it was Foxglove wasn't it?"

Yuki was taken aback, her face registering complete shock. "He didn't...I was just--" she shook her head slowly and began backing away. She thought Epitome would attack her for sure, and she wanted to get a head start. But his actual reaction surprised her.

He slouched suddenly and put his face on his hands. "Oh god..." he mumbled from behind his fingers. He had just lost his temper and inadvertently gave away his most terrible secret to one of two people he absolutely didn't want to know. He mentally braced himself for a merciless teasing.

Fortunately Yuki wasn't smiling, but if she was she would have lost it at that pitiful sight. She quietly creeped closer as she watched him sit motionless on the bench, head still in his hands. "Are you okay?" she asked softly.

    "Just go away," he mumbled.

Yuki ignored him and sat next to him on the bench gently. "Did you see a doctor?" she asked quietly.

"I didn't ask for your help!" he growled. "Just leave!"

"Fine," Yuki sighed. She stood and looked down at Dominic. "But before I go I want you to know this is beyond something I'd use against you. I don't want to be that hurtful."

Dominic didn't respond. He sat perfectly still, waiting for Yuki to leave, and irrationally hoping he'd never see her or have to talk to her again.

"You know--" Yuki turned around again as she paused in the doorway. "It's not a flaw, Dom, any more than the flu would be. You just need a little help to get through it is all."

She thought about saying more, but she still wasn't sure if he was sitting there feeling sorry for himself or building up enough anger to physically throw her out himself, or worse. Following her better judgement she headed back out into the hallway, shaking her head.
